Video to CT Registration for Image Overlay on Solid Organs

چکیده
This paper describes a general-purpose system for computing registered stereoscopic video overlays of pre-operative imagery during minimally invasive surgery. There are three key elements to our approach. The first element is a real-time computer vision system that operates on stereoscopic video acquired during minimally invasive surgery to extract geometric information. We present two variations on this system: a dense stereo algorithm and a sparse point-based method. The second element is an efficient deformable surface-to-surface ICP registration. The final element is a novel display system that has been customized to operate well with stereo vision. By combining these elements, we show that we are able to perform video to volume registration and display in real time. This in turn facilitates rendering of annotations and visualization of sub-surface information on structures within the surgical field. Experimental results are shown on video sequences recorded during animal and human surgeries.

High-accuracy 3D image-based registration of endoscopic video to C-arm cone-beam CT for image-guided skull base surgery
Registration of endoscopic video to preoperative CT facilitates high-precision surgery of the head, neck, and skull-base. Conventional video-CT registration is limited by the accuracy of the tracker and does not use the underlying video or CT image data. A new image-based video registration method has been developed to overcome the limitations of conventional tracker-based registration. This me...
متن کاملVision-Based Object Registration for Real-Time Image Overlay
This paper presents a computer vision-based technique for object registration, real-time tracking, and image overlay. The capability can be used to superimpose registered medical images such as those from CT or MRI on to a video image of a patient's body. Real-time object registration enables an image to be overlaid consistently on to objects even while the objects and cameras viewing it are mo...

Project Review Our project is titled “Image Processing for Video-CT Registration in Sinus Surgery.” We aim to develop an occluding contour extraction algorithm that can reliably and efficiently find edges in sinus surgery endoscopic videos. Our project is a critical component of a larger one that aims to enhance magnetic tracker resolution in sinus surgery. The proposed registration algorithm i...
متن کاملNew Pseudo-CT Generation Approach from Magnetic Resonance Imaging using a Local Texture Descriptor
Background: One of the challenges of PET/MRI combined systems is to derive an attenuation map to correct the PET image. For that, the pseudo-CT image could be used to correct the attenuation. Until now, most existing scientific researches construct this pseudo-CT image using the registration techniques. However, these techniques suffer from the local minima of the non-rigid deformation energy f...
متن کاملEvaluation of deformable image registration in HDR gynecological brachytherapy
Introduction: In brachytherapy, as in external radiotherapy, image-guidance plays an important role. For GYN treatments it is standard to acquire at least CT images and preferably MR images prior to each treatment and to calculate the dose of the day on each set of images. Then, the dose to the target and to the organs at risk (OAR) is calculated with worst case scenario from I...
